It woke me up in the middle of the night last night.
I could use a little Texas. I posted that last video of Merle Haggard, and realized how dumb it was that I hadn’t ever been there. It’s 900 miles away. There’s a lot of roads in between here and there I’ve never been on.
I’d also like to go back to Marfa. And Alpine Texas seemed pretty cool.
I rolled the past the Judge Roy Bean Museum in Langtry, and didn’t stop. The home of Judge Roy Bean. That shit has haunted me. There’s a lot of good stories in there.
I need to scout the perimeter.
Really, Fuck New Mexico. There, I said it. They smoke a lot of weed there and sit around and paint pictures, and I find i’m not all that interested.
But Texas? I need to go.
Willie and me rode through the town in TX that had a Billy The Kid museum and we didn’t stop. Both have regretted since! Cochise
Research the Three Twisted Sisters route in NW Texas Hill Country. Great riding and more than a few TX BB Q joints. Luckenbach is a cool stop.
Came to Texas 35 years ago.. once you leave the cities you find Texas. Hico, Texas is the BTK town. Great for a bike visit. Either side of I-35. The East is lots of flat cotton type farming. The West more “Hill Country”.. Johnson City (think President Johnson)… Fredericksburg has great Main Street, winery’s, tons of visitors every weekend mostly. Must see the WWII museum.. And did you know Admiral Nimitz was from there? In the middle of doggone Texas grew to command In the Pacific!! Anyway, if you want to see it Texas probably has it.. like the largest military base in Killeen… Ft. Hood. Or south to the Davis Mountains…
Lots to see here! Just remember HOT and HUMID!! Best is Spring and fall !!
