For me, it was one for the books.
Not because I hadn’t made some miles before, and not because I hadn’t seen the black hills of South Dakota.
Riding, is a funny thing. Some people love it, some people try it, and some people just don’t understand it. I’m not sure that I understand it. I gotta say, I do love it.
Putting a mile or two down just brings me a little peace. Seeing a new thing, riding a new road, experiencing something new.
Maybe it’s just the damn wind. Who knows.
Riding is such a Zen thing: It puts you in the moment. The rain, temperature the texture of the asphalt. Planning ahead. Your reactions to all those things.
Anyway, made 3700 miles in 10 days. It’s not a record by any means. But for me, it was a signal that I could still do what I loved.
I’m not young anymore.
But I can still kick a little ass out there.
And I plan to keep doing it.
Love your content man. I am & have been for some time a HUGE I Easy Rider movie aficionado. I’ve always wanted to ride those same roads, stop at the same towns and see the same sites that the mythical Billy & Wyatt passed in their search for America. I have been fortunate enough to have discovered & ridden many of those filming locations over the years, as well as hitting the greatest motorcycle event on the planet 14 times.
I’ve done several deep-dives into various questions regarding the movie & the classic motorcycles themselves. I inquired & received an answer from Fonda regarding the lost additional footage from the edited down film. He stated that the outtakes & all additional footage were lost at Columbia Pictures in 1969. Whatta shame! The other eye-bleeding research I performed was on who stole the 3 classic motorcycles & whatever came of them. I read what article on this & there seem to be various accounts but from the best I can surmise they were stolen from Tex Hall’s place in the Los Angeles area & we all know who the dominate Outlaw Motorcycle Club was in that area. It wouldn’t surprise me in the least.
